Jovia Financial Credit Union
May 2021

We're celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week!

Supporting educators has been part of our credit union foundation for over 80 years. Jovia was built by educators, for educators.

The 2021 school year is another one for the history books. Our teachers continue to keep students engaged and learning through virtual, in-person, and hybrid classroom environments, behind masks and shields. Now, more than ever, we want to extend a special thank you and celebrate your commitment to your students.
We know there are many incredible educators out there, and if you are one of them, we want to treat you to a little R&R at Long Island's luxury beachfront hotel and spa, Gurney's Montauk Resort. Use the link below to enter our contest for a chance to win a $1,000 Gurney's Gift Card to enjoy a hotel stay, dining, spa, sand, and sun, on a relaxing Montauk getaway!

Plus, twenty-five (25) lucky winners will be randomly selected to win a $50 Amazon eGift Card to treat yourself to something special.

All you have to do is complete the contest entry form by May 15th.  Good luck, and thank you for all you do!

Protect yourself against fraud and scams

Fraud can happen to anyone, at any time. Unfortunately, scams have become so common that it puts us all at risk. Thankfully, there are things you can do to detect fraud and protect yourself. We're here to help you with these easy-to-use tips below.
Keep personal information confidential.
Don't give out personal information by phone, email, or over the Internet unless you initiate contact and know the caller. If we contact you, we will never ask for your online banking credentials, account information, social security number, debit card PIN, CVV, password, or one-time passcode by text or email.

Look out for suspicious texts, emails, and phone calls.
Fraudsters send fake texts, emails, and phone calls that look and sound like they are from a trustworthy source.
  • Do not open any file attachments or click any URL links that you do not recognize.
  • Keep an eye out for incorrect sender email addresses, threatening messages, and attachments that you didn't request. These items could be hiding malware which puts your devices at risk.
  • Never provide secure information by email, text, or phone. Scammers sometimes pretend to be your credit union or bank and ask for personal information. If you receive a suspicious email, text, or call asking for personal information, call us directly to verify your account's security.

Watch out for unusual transactions.
Check your Jovia account activity and balances regularly. You can access your account information at any time 24/7 with online banking and the Jovia mobile app.

Set up debit & credit card alerts.
With Jovia's Card Controls service, you can receive transaction alerts for your Jovia debit and credit cards by text, email, or push notifications right to your mobile device. Log in to online banking or the mobile banking app to enroll today.

Only send money to people you know and trust.
Zelle® and other money transfer services (like Venmo, PayPal, etc.) are just like giving someone cash. Be sure to only send money to people you know and trust, like friends and family.

Enable an authenticator app for additional security.
You can add an extra layer of security by enabling multifactor authentication - (which is a second step to verify who you are, like a text or phone call with a one-time passcode) – for any accounts or services you use.

In Online and Mobile Banking, you can activate an authenticator code as one of your methods of multifactor authentication in addition to or instead of a text or phone call. When you sign in, if we do not recognize your computer or device, we confirm your identity using a code generated by either the Microsoft or Google authenticator apps.

To turn on identity confirmation by an authenticator app on your mobile device, click "More", Go to "Settings", "My Settings", and then click Edit "Security Options". Click "By Authenticator" to the ON position. Enter your Current Password and hit Save. Review the instructions for downloading an authenticator app. The same app can be used for Online Banking as well.

Change your passwords and PINs.
Experts recommend changing your PIN on your debit card and password for online/mobile banking at least twice a year, even if your account hasn't been compromised. Add extra numbers and symbols to create stronger passwords.

Review account information and credentials.
Make sure your contact info is accurate and updated. That way, we can contact you if we notice suspicious activity on your account.
