Digital payments provide a contactless payment and offer a convenient alternative to paying cash. As with any financial transaction, it's best to be alert and follow some simple tips to avoid falling victim to fraud.
|
|
- Use a trusted digital payment provider. Jovia offers a convenient and secure option for making digital payments using Zelle.® Transferring money from a mobile device using Zelle is like giving someone cash. Be sure to only send money to people you know and trust.
- Look out for fraudulent apps. Before you download a digital payment app, ensure the app is a legitimate mobile banking/payment app from your credit union, bank, or payment provider.
- Don't click on links sent via text, email, or online pop-ups claiming to be from your financial institution. The most common method hackers use to spread malware is through malicious links, apps, and downloads.
- Do not respond to any text messages or emails asking for financial or personal information. Do not share your PIN, card numbers, or your card's CVV number.
- Verify your payment recipient's User ID to ensure you are sending payments to the correct person.
- Have a dedicated credit card payment method for online transactions. It will be much easier to notice purchase irregularities.
- Set up debit & credit card transaction alerts. With Jovia's Card Controls service, you can receive transaction alerts for your Jovia debit and credit cards by text, email, or push notifications right to your mobile device.
- Check your account statements. If you log in to Online and Mobile Banking regularly, you'll spot any inconsistencies.
- Use a strong password and change your password regularly. Avoid reusing old passwords that can put your account at risk.
- Do not use public wi-fi when making digital payments. If you need to make an online payment when you're out and about, use your mobile data instead.
